About Me

We have had our home at Newton by the Sea for over 25 years . It’s been at the heart of our family’s lives . People who visit always say it’s a soulful place that somehow captures the heart . People nearly always return .

I am always inspired living here to create. Painting is my reflex response to the wild, windswept coast. There is a constantly changing energy and timelessness that I try to capture . The weathered combination of the elements. The sense of something bigger than us and the power of nature.

Then along came seaweeds. A lockdown discovery. A new secret revealed. Natures own beautiful creations . I am totally in awe of their diversity and delicacy yet withstanding the elements.

My paintings and pressings are all in my own home along with other finds foraged and collected over the years .

Foraging

Foraging has become my passion . Low tide walks always brings in new treasures from the sea . Each discarded find has a weathered history  . I’m always amazed how such delicate pieces survive at all amongst the kelp and rocks. The metamorphosis on paper is like a secret unfolded.

They reveal themselves as artistic masterpieces. From the  painterly quality of Sea Beech and Beautiful Fan Weed to  the tapestry , needlework appearance of Red Comb Weed . No intervention is needed  - the shapes, the colour and the textures are all natures own creation.

Just walking the dog is always the starting point for my creativity. Inspiration abounds on the coastline. Just allow time to notice and absorb .
